Introduction

Visual presentations have been around in the classroom beginning with the use of the chalkboard and chalk. Teachers used this medium to display the solving of math problems, language mechanics, science formulas and more. Later the overhead projector was a new technology that added more interaction with ease. Teachers could pre-print or copy information on a sheet, then write and wipe.

The introduction of Microsoft PowerPoint brought a new era of creating and presenting information. Probably the most widely used software application for the novice and advanced. It has built-in templates that conforms us to present information in a certain way. Over the past years, more and more are we looking outside of the box to create presentations still with this application.

Other technological advances have brought interactive whiteboards to the classroom; while Presentations 2.0 have brought our creativity and instruction to the world.

Traditional Examples for Teaching

  • Fractions - This was created using PowerPoint. It can be used as a class presentation or individually.
  • Jeopardy Math - A game based on the gameshow 'Jeopardy' created using PowerPoint.
  • Internet 4 Classrooms - Ideas for using PowerPoint in the classroom.

Web 2.0 tools have provided an array of mediums to disseminate information to students, colleagues, co-workers, etc. without physically being on location. In addition, a new concept has emerged in the way information is presented. The message is no longer lists and bullet points, but a visual message that entices and engages us to think beyond the words. View the presentations below.

Thanks for the tips. Presentations are a huge part of my job and I want not just to go with the times, but to share my experience about remote presentations as well. Most of all I share my mind maps and projects (I use Conceptdraw software news.conceptdraw.com/article.php?nid=NID-5548). I show my presentations via Skype, it works with ConceptDraw easy and fast irrespectively the internet speed, because my file is loading to viewers computers and is used by program, not by network. All the participants can view and discuss in same time. Priceless option for me. Highly recommend.
