Overview of Text Messaging/SMSText messaging is a way to stay connected to family and friends nationwide and internationally. It has become the fastest growing mobile device feature and has no age limit. Text messages can be sent in a variety of ways ranging from mobile to mobile, PC to mobile and E-mail to mobile.
Text messaging, also called SMS (short messaging service), allows for short text messaging to be sent and received on mobile phones, PDA's or pagers. Text messaging is used for messages that are usually no longer than 500 characters. Messages can be sent from one phone to another by addressing the message to the recipient's phone number. Messages can also be sent via phone to a special email address through the carrier's website and through instant messaging using a pin (such as using a Blackberry).
SMS (short messaging service), usually meant for pagers, is a service that allows users to send and receive short hand text messages.
